1. 2014 theme for National Family Caregivers Month is “Care Comes Home

2. 58% of caregivers help with at least one Activity of Daily Living (ADL) such as getting dressed or assisting an individual while walking.

3. The average caregiver provides 20.4 hours/week of care, though 13% of caregivers provide more than 40 hours/week.

4. About 30% said they need help keeping the person they care for safe and 27% would like to find easy activities to do with the person they care for (NAC, 2004).

5. 3 in 10 caregivers say their caregiving situation is emotionally stressful-co-residence & burden of care are factors.

6. Half of caregivers say their care recipient lives in his or her own home, while 29% live in the caregiver’s  home.

7. An estimated 21% of households in the United States are impacted by caregiving responsibilities (NAC, 2004).

8. Caregivers report having difficulty finding time for one’s self (35%), managing emotional and physical stress (29%), and balancing work and family responsibilities (29%) (NAC, 2004).
